Most are pretty fresh, as in 'days old' fresh. Others are weeks or even months old. Finding a 'this person literally died today' is a rarer find, it's more likely animals will be found very fresh.

In terms of a cause of death, bodies are stabbed or shot. Some might show signs of strangulation. There may be cases of hypothermia or starvation related deaths, but pretty much every person or animal has been purposely killed violently
