While a confrontation with a Forest Talker could happen, say if the Doctor came across one that appeared to be alone — they wouldn't be interested in speaking with the Doctor but would listen to anything he would say. It'd be a pretty one sided conversation. At the mention of a trade, a response would be: "No trade, Outsider."
In addition, another thing they might mention to the Doctor would be: "This is the beginning of the dark." and "It cannot be held forever."
Ultimately, it will turn hostile and they would end up trying to attack him or simply retrieve their cache and leave and try to hide it elsewhere in Lakeside.
However, as I've mentioned in another question: there are some older teens amongst the ranks. They might be less inclined to shoot and would rather just grab their cache and run, or shoot (poorly) and not hit the Doctor in this instance, so he could get away intact/unharmed. So he could have an interaction with one of the younger Forest Talkers!
