Zane lifts his hands in an attempt to assure Raylan he was unarmed but that didn't mean Raylan believed him. His face didn't change a fraction from the steely serious Lawman expression he wore, even with the flattering compliment. Goose however, didn't see any problem with the situation - this was obviously some new friend that had come over for him to play with, and jumps on Zane's leg, trying to get at the ends of the flaps of the man's shirt.

"Ignore him," Raylan says. "Turn around, lift your shirt. Let me see your back." Prove you weren't armed, and then they could talk.
