Max manages a smile to that, because she can recognize someone's attempt to help.

"Thanks," she tells her. Family isn't entirely off the table always, but right then, it's still too fresh, in some ways.

"I've never been snowboarding. Just skateboarding," but Max completely perks up to this. "In fact, I have my skateboard. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it, though. Can't skate in all of this." She kicks at the snow.
