[ Melissa doesn't say anything at first. Then, almost confused: ] Oh.

[ It makes sense that would be what Natalie thinks of her. Not that it isn't true, but—right now marriage is the last thing on Melissa's mind. It's easy to forget that they'll go back to a place with bullshit laws and labels eventually, because in the wilderness the only laws that matter are the ones they've made up, and the only labels that exist are one of us and not one of us.

She and Shauna have never said the word "gay" in front of each other. They don't throw the word "lesbian" around like Tai and Van have gotten comfortable doing. Melissa has no idea if Shauna even is... that. And she isn't going to ask, because she's pretty sure she isn't going to like the answer she gets. Mel knows she's kind of a walking kick-me sign emotionally, but she's not stupid enough to do that to herself. ]


Cool, [ she adds, because it seems like she should be having a bigger reaction. Then, a little brighter, ] I can't wait.

[ Because yeah, it is cool. She'd like to do that someday. ]
