Perhaps it's telling that Bigby doesn't approach. Not that he's worried about maybe getting attacked by Root's companion - it's the other way around, really. Even if Bigby can't help but be naturally intimidating to that dog, he doesn't want to make it feel bad. At least staying back a few steps means that he's giving Bear some space here, rather than forcing his presence on the other.
His shrug - once Root's question comes - is pretty casual too.
"It depends on what you're looking for." It sounds fairly amendable to the idea though - like Bigby is pretty sure he will be able to, he's just taking the few exceptions to the rule into account. But it's not like he really minds helping a relatively new person out with something. He'd hate to sound like some sappy person talking about community or whatever, but it is what you need to survive out here.
