It hasn't occurred to him that there are different worlds going on here. This still seems like Earth, and the concept of multiple Earths is a bit beyond the scope of his imagination at the moment. A briefer pause, then he adds, much more quietly, like he expects to be punished for saying so if someone overhears, "Belonged. Past tense."
