Vasiliy's genuinely very collectivist and has a strong desire to be helpful, so that provides an easy opening for interactions of the group of people trying to survive together variety. He's also an EMT, so he can provide emergency medical care when needed, and I'd love for him to get some CR-in-law based on people who know Konstantin - if they're dropping him off at home in a heap after wandering off and collapsing, Vasiliy's the one on the porch coming to collect him. Unwanted CR: Off the market for romance and also roommates! He's been harboring a cosmonaut in his one-person cabin and his romantic/sexual attentions are taken up by a pretty all-consuming crush on/infatuation with him. He's not hiding it very well, but he is trying.

Powers: I'm thinking I'm going to skip this round and keep Vasya powerless for the time being, but I'm open to tagging around with him for other people's starters. Adust: In addition to his EMS training, Vasiliy is genuinely very altruistic - to a fault. An actual fault, because he can be self-sacrificial in ways that are ill-advised and do more harm than good—I'd like to have him experience this with one other character, and he will absolutely be going upstairs to help. I'd prefer to thread this out with someone who knows they have space to boomerang on a weekend or two or tag a few times during the week so that we can keep the thread moving because I'd really like to see this one to completion before next event! Doppelganger: Another prompt where I'm mostly looking to tag into other people's TLs—Vasiliy will check up on people who seem off, although if it's simple loneliness/withdrawal from social spaces, it may be harder for him because he's culturally conditioned to not get into other people's personal business.

Vasiliy’s a Soviet ex-interrogator, fervent communist, and revenant–born in 1910, he served in Nikolai Yezhov’s NKVD from 1936-1940 as a ‘good cop’ interrogator responsible for emotional manipulation in the distinctly Soviet split style interrogation system: instead of beating confessions out of prisoners, Vasiliy approached them casually and with kindness, expressing sympathy and emphasizing that it was in their best interest (and their family’s) for them to sign the falsified confessions that would ultimately get them jailed or shot outright, justifying it to himself with the belief they’d be tortured until that happened anyway. When Yezhov fell from Stalin’s favor and was jailed and executed, the NKVD was purged just as it had been during Vasiliy’s time, and he was arrested, interrogated, and executed as an enemy of the state. But his story didn’t end there–for reasons that aren’t clear to him, Vasiliy woke up lying on his back in the snow in the middle of nowhere in 2015, unharmed, carrying the documents of a man by the same name born in 1985. He’s spent the past three years unlearning Stalinism and coming to grips with the sheer magnitude of what he did, racked with overwhelming guilt and deep paranoia over being discovered and executed for what he did a second time. He trained as an EMT and immigrated to the US on a work visa two years after his return to the world of the living, and spent the year before his arrival in Milton working with Chicago municipal EMS in an unconscious effort to balance some of the cosmic harm he did while processing how he was summarily disposed of and living in fear of rediscovery, still a true believer in communism but now living in an environment in which traits that helped him survive in a police state are seen as deeply unusual.
