SEPTEMBER 2023 EVENT

PROMPT ONE — THE AURORA: AFTERSHOCKS: The Aurora comes, bringing chaos to the town of Milton. Electronics go haywire, and the Interlopers learn of the original citizens of Milton.
THE AURORA: AFTERSHOCKS — CONTENT WARNINGS: supernatural horror; ‘ghost’ horror; hauntings; death of npcs in various ways including suicide, murder or exposure to elements.

PROMPT TWO — THE HOUR OF THE WOLF: Tainted by the Aurora and attracted to the noise of people inhabiting the town, several packs of wolves descend upon Milton.
THE HOUR OF THE WOLF — CONTENT WARNINGS: (wild) animal attacks, altered wildlife, possible character injury/death, possible (wild) animal injury/death.

PROMPT THREE — IT SPEAKS: A voice comes to the Interlopers, one that knows them and their darkest fears and deepest insecurities, persuading them to fade into the Long Dark by any means necessary.
IT SPEAKS — CONTENT WARNINGS: psychological horror; mental manipulation; themes of suicide; themes of depression; potential self-harm; potential feelings of isolation; potential attempted suicide.

THE AURORA: AFTERSHOCKS

After the feast, and making sure the newcomers to Milton are seen to, Methuselah packs up. He will explain to others that while he will return to check in, he is no resident of Milton and will not stay. He is a nomad, something he has been all his life. He lives in nature. That is where he belongs. But he does assure that people are welcome to remain sheltered in the Hall if they wish to. And sure enough, the old man leaves, wishing the newcomers well. He can still be found out in the wilderness, and will shelter and feed those out exploring should they come across him.

And so the days and nights of this world roll on. The initial time of those who have come to be stranded in this world is unsettled. The weather is always changing, even if it remains bitterly cold. On some nights throughout the next month, however, the snow clouds clear and Interlopers are given a rare, clear night. At first, it’s beautiful: without the light pollution, all the stars can be seen, the moon casts an eerie glow upon the snow in the dead silence of the night. One might even say there is a kind of peace that comes with it all. And for some of these evenings, they pass by: uneventful and silent — the long darkness of an endless winter’s night.

But on others, it isn’t so uneventful. The noise starts: faint at first, but then growing louder. Something in the heavens above. An ethereal, high-pitched chorus of sounds difficult to place. There’s a kind of electrical buzzing with it all, a low, endless hum punctuated with cracks and pops that echo. The sky is alive with sound, louder than anyone could ever expect it to. With it comes the swirling streaking of colour against the inky black of night, growing brighter and brighter as the night goes on: The Aurora has come.

And it isn’t the sky that comes to life too: the whole town does too. Streetlights, illuminating the town’s roads; lights in stores and homes will come alive, buzzing and flickering often. Previously abandoned cars will turn on, their headlights blaring but faltering. Electronics that had previously seemed broken flick on — and whilst there are no broadcasts available on televisions, and the radio waves only drone on in static, both only occasionally blaring standard emergency broadcasts. Any computers and phones will turn on, but will have no internet or reception. Instead, Interlopers may find texts and emails — many of them unsent. The everyday lives of their users stored within, now readable.

But there’s something else too. The Aurora doesn’t just awaken the electronics of the town. Dotted around, in the streets, in homes, in stores, the lights of the Aurora begin to take shape: spectral-like forms of people, their faces hard to make out, details difficult to define. They move in glitching patterns, they speak with voices distorted by static. Eagle-eyed Interlopers may recognise the forms of some, a body or an action:

These are the residents of Milton, in their last moments on this earth.

The forms act out short scenes on repeat: a desperate fight between two men over a vehicle, a murder in a store during a riot, a suicide alone in one of the many houses. An argument over the communication lines going down. A sobbing teen curled up on his bed. A child stares up at the skies, their hands over their ears, crying in fright. A woman begs for her father to leave his home and head to the coast with her, to try to make it to the mainland, but he refuses to leave. A man succumbs to the cold walking alone in the outskirts of town without proper clothing for the elements. Several of these ‘ghosts’ are people fleeing before they stop and simply gasp, staring off into the distance for a few seconds before they drop dead on the spot.

There is nothing that can be done to stop these endless loops. Nothing to help these poor souls. Each of these moments are captured by the Aurora: final, desperate and tragic moments in some unknown, chaotic time. Some of these ‘ghosts’ maybe stop after so many loops — flickering out into nothing, others will last all night. But all will be gone by the morning and the Aurora comes to an end. There are answers, and there are none.

THE HOUR OF THE WOLF

The growing presence of people within the town of Milton has meant more light, more warmth, more noise. The Aurora has created great change, but people are not the only thing the ethereal lights in the sky has brought down upon this old mining town.

When the sun slips below the horizon, and the clear skies of burnt embers and inky blues alight with stars, they come.

A lone howl, long and haunting. It is the first signal, which carries on the air. You can’t seem to place from which direction it comes from, it feels like it encompasses you. Then another voice joins it, and another, and another. A chorus of them. As the sound echoes off, another fills its place: a strange feral chittering, snarling and snapping — the drumming of feet upon the snow, heading right for you.

Wolves.

Unnatural, glowing green eyes in the dark — tendrils of light seeping from them as they rush in and encircle those they come across outside. They come in packs of three or more, and they are clever. They’re quicker than any wolf you’ve ever known, bigger and hardier too. They will try to strike fast by zipping in when you’re distracted, snapping and nipping at legs or trying to take quick bites out of arms before drawing back. They work together to bring their prey down, a solid unit of noise and teeth. They will hunt down those who hide inside, try to claw their way inside of homes and buildings — dead set on finding you and tearing you apart. There is no hiding from them. They will find you.

But breaking the pack can send them back. If they’re broken, their morale is depleted. Fire is your biggest friend: torches, campfires and flames will keep them mostly at bay and only the bravest of these packs may attack. Striking them with flares or flames will actually send them into brief retreats. Bullets and arrows are effective with both noise and injuring the wolves, and although hitting one will be difficult due their speed, it’s possible. Killing one of these wolves will dissolve the pack’s morale entirely, and the rest will flee off into the night.

Until next time. Maybe it’s best you don’t stick around. They do hold a relentless determination.

IT SPEAKS

There are whispers. Small, at first. Distracting. Perhaps it is only the wind you hear. Milton is so quiet, even with the new hustle and bustle of the new people to this place. Wood creaks and the trees rustle, there are plenty of sounds you could mistake it for.

‘Interloper.’ It is an old voice. Something deep and dark and ancient. Something impossible, older than the earth itself. It floats into your ears and nestles there, sending an ice-cold shiver down your spine. Even to the most stoic and unshakeable souls, it is a unnerving voice. It feels wrong. It feels like an ending. To hear the voice is deeply unsettling... and yet... you recognise it.

It comes to you, in the dead of night when sleep is far. In the long stretches of day as you go about your business, as you travel across the frigid landscape or gather firewood or try to pass the time within whatever home you’ve made for yourself. For some the voice will be clear as day, for others it may be some distant whisper — something gently murmuring in your ear. But the voice will be heard, no matter the person.

‘Interloper. Do you know what it means?’ It asks. ‘It means one that involves itself in a place it does not belong. You do not belong.’

That it isn’t the only thing it tells you. For everyone, it’s different. It knows you. It picks up on any weakness, any insecurity. It makes you feel small, insignificant. It tells you all the quiet, terrible things you hide down within yourself. For days, weeks, the voice is there. Speaking to you. It will wear you down, insist you are not wanted, that you do not belong here.

... And wouldn’t it be better if you weren’t here at all?

The voice seeks to break you. It will push you to your limit. Sleep will become hard to find, your spirits low and hollow. In time you might seem to believe it. Maybe it’s better if you weren’t here. You don’t belong in this place, why should you stay?

‘Disappear, Interloper. Go into the Long Dark.’

Perhaps you next find yourself atop the steep cliffs, looking down into the Milton Basin below. Perhaps you find yourself with a gun in your hand, or a rope. Perhaps you find your feet carrying you out into the snow. You’re going to disappear. You’re going to go into the Dark.

Or maybe the voice isn’t so loud. You can push it down, ignore it. Perhaps Faith is what keeps you steady, perhaps knowing who you are despite your faults stops the voice from taking over. Maybe you can help those who can’t block out the voice. Words of encouragement, affirmation, kindness, determination, even spite. The voice wants you dead, but you will not let it. You will not fall. You will not let anyone else fall, either.

FAQs

THE AURORA: AFTERSHOCKS

1. While examples are given, players are encouraged to come up with their own ghostly loops of similar loops. The key thing to remember is that the people of Milton have descended into public disorder. Fights, arguments and murders have occurred, as have suicides or other unexplained deaths. People are frightened. They want to leave the town.

2. Ghostly loops cannot be interacted with, only witnessed.

3. There is no way of putting these 'ghosts' to rest. These loops are more like residual memories, as if the energy of the townsfolk remained, and have been reconstructed by the Aurora.

THE HOUR OF THE WOLF

1. Due to the Aurora's influence, these wolves are harder, better, faster, stronger, than typical wild wolves. They do not die as easily, and are much more difficult to wound and kill. But not impossible. Scaring the wolves will be far easier to accomplish than killing them.

2. Wolves will return, sometimes more than once on the same night, or on other nights during the month. The only sure-fire way to have them stop coming back is to kill the pack or beat them back enough until they finally learn to leave the Interlopers alone.

3. Wolf meat is technically edible. But not advised due to parasites. Characters are still welcome to harvest the wolves they kill, however. Who would say no to a cool ass wolf cape.

IT SPEAKS

1. Characters can be talked down and broken from the voice's influence by others. Genuine connection and empathy will work massively, but even encouragement and affirmations to keep surviving will be powerful enough to break the voice's hold.

2. Players are welcome to play with the length of time the voice can be heard with characters. Some may want to have it over a short space of time, others can have this progress over a longer time period.

Player Name: Cheryl
Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] heolstor or _heolstor on discord.
Pacing: Wildly, I have been managing to keep on top of things, for the most part. I'm usually less active on the weekends due to work.
OOC Limits: Character death. I'm also trying to avoid maiming Kieren since he can't actually heal...
patchwork: (𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄.)

grace marks | alias grace

[personal profile] patchwork 2023-09-05 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: bobby
Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] crowders or PM
Pacing: i will be fairly slow this month – i'm submitting my thesis on the 30th so i'm crunching, but i'm hoping to fit in RP to give my brain a rest in between!
OOC Limits: none in particular for grace!

Character Name: grace marks
Canon: alias grace (book and adaptation)

Wanted CR: friends! people who can protect her from big scary monsters! folks who can teach her about the future! folks who are from similar timeframes to hers (1850s)!
Unwanted CR: no romance (at least nothing sudden) and no negative CR just for the sake of it – i am happy to play out negative stuff if it goes that way (grace is very judgemental on her part, and can be a little mean sometimes), but only if there's an angle/some idea of development.

Event Ideas:
pre-event — i'd like to throw up a prompt or two for before the event; grace has been helping to move the bodies, and otherwise would be seen sewing a patchwork blanket, so if anyone wants to jumpstart some CR or handwave a meeting so we can have pre-established things for when the event rolls around, that would be cool with me! another option would maybe be if someone found her neckerchief. she'd be very, very determined to get that back at all costs.
the aurora — grace will definitely have some spooky and ominous things to say about this. would love to throw her up against some more science-minded types, since she has Opinions about ghosts/spirits that i think would make a fun debate.
the hour of the wolf — grace will definitely be Running Away With Haste, but i would love to put her in a situation where she has to kill to defend herself and/or someone else and maybe goes a little wild about it, so if your character coaching a schrodinger's-innocent-convicted-murderess into killing a wolf is intriguing... hmu.
it speaks — grace will be extremely susceptible to this voice, and i think she might dramatically walk herself to a cliff and need to be talked out of throwing herself off it – it might be a good way to get some deeper CR going for a character to have to talk her down! and then once she's been talked down herself, she'll be able to help others.

kieren walker | in the flesh

[personal profile] burying 2023-09-05 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Kieren Walker.
Canon: In The Flesh.

Wanted CR: Anything and everything. Friends would be great. Kieren's a sarcastic little shit when he wants to be and is still just a teen, but also just having people to hang with. Anyone who's Not Quite Human would be dope. People to maybe teach him some survival skills? I'd love to build up some good CR with folks before it (inevitably) comes out that Kieren is in fact the undead. In that same breath, people who would actively freak out/be wary of Kieren when the truth comes out and building on that would be A++
Unwanted CR: I'm not actively looking for romance, just yet. Kieren's not really in the right head-space for it, considering he's not long after losing the love of his life.

Event Ideas:

— general Kieren has been keeping a very low profile since arrival. As a medicated Partially Deceased Syndrome Sufferer, Kieren requires a daily dose of a drug to stop him from going feral. However, due to the Aurora freezing this need in him, he doesn't need it. But Kieren doesn't know that. So he's been existing in a state of teetering on the edge of a nervous breakdown about when he's going to turn rabid and attack people. He's been mostly keeping to himself, and trying to keep himself busy with doing menial tasks like gathering firewood and the like. So I'm down with him doing some general threads of him meeting people, still!

— the hour of the wolf Close calls? Attempted rescues of anyone else out in the streets when the wolves hit? Kieren isn't a fighter, nor can he do much to defend against the wolves — but he'd actively try to help people in need. Maybe if it's pulling people into buildings or trying to help defend buildings against the wolves. Or maybe if you just need someone to try and talk you down from a freak out (whilst he is also freaking out).

— it speaks Oh, boy. It's gonna be so easy for the voice to get at Kieren. It's worth mentioning Kieren's death in his canon is that of a successful suicide attempt. He's depressed and holds a lot of guilt for the things he's done in his untreated state. He killed and ate people, and he's not okay about that. He doesn't believe in getting a get out jail free card just because he wasn't medicated and didn't know any better. He's also already been considering the idea of being killed/put down in case he goes rabid here in game, because he's horrified of the idea of hurting people. He's going to need talk down. It's possible he might talk a little more about his condition (through half-truths) with others and his fears concerning that, so there's room for a lot of Feels, here.

Sort of a random question but! Since there's at least one farm in the area and the wolves may have preexisted whatever tragedy struck: would it be possible for Max to find a wolf collar if she went looking for one around the farm?

She'll just MacGyver one if she can't find one, but I figure it couldn't hurt to ask!

kate marsh | life is strange

[personal profile] castitas 2023-09-05 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Kate Marsh.
Canon: Life Is Strange.

Wanted CR: Pretty much everything! Friends!!! People around her own age to befriend!!! Mentors/people to help her with this absolute hell of a world with survival skills — she's not worldly at all. People to keep an eye on her/look out for her since she's literally just a teenager and is Really Not Coping. Fellow religious folks or folks who fell out of their faiths.
Unwanted CR: I prefer not to have negative CR for the sake of it. Again, not actively looking for romance and in truth it'd be a super slow burn thing for Kate due to her own values concerning romantic relationships.

Event Ideas:

— general Kate is Not Doing Well Mentally. She hasn't been up to much due to her depressive state and still remains suicidal from her canon/canon point. She's living in the Community Hall, and mostly just... existing. I'm working on some prompts that will go into her event top level for people looking for a more general thing/intro if they haven't met her yet. She is starting to try to go out to forage and make herself useful on her better days.

— the aurora Are they ghosts? Lost souls? Some sad wonderings over the ghostly-loops. Or maybe some potentially upsetting ones of a more violent scene that Kate should absolutely be pulled away from/potentially comforted over. Basically room for sad and potential soft tbh.

— it speaks She's going to be very susceptible to the voice. She's already suicidal and it'll be enough to push her over the edge due to her current state and her super shaky faith at the moment. There'll be initial freak-outs people could calm her down from when she first hears the voice — she already thinks she's in Hell and now she's probably going to think the Devil's talking to her. In enough time, she will attempt to kill herself — probably throwing herself off the higher points of the Basin so there's an opportunity for someone to talk her down.

Because I'm that annoying person who likes to have at least semi-clear timelines for things: Am I reading it right that the Aurora is one day, then the wolves come... and then the voice starts? And the voice could last multiple days?

(I haven't coffeed yet, so apologies if this is actually made clear in the above!)

laus | just ken

[personal profile] blondfragility 2023-09-05 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Laus.
Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] blackspire or hit me on the Discord server.
Pacing: Listen ... Slow, mostly because I'm out of the country for 11 days, but I'm bringing my lil ipad with me so I can hopefully do a round of tags every day/every other day.
OOC Limits: Ken's too beautiful to die just yet, but otherwise I think I'm good with most other things.

Character Name: Ken.
Canon: Barbie (2023).

Wanted CR: All of it! Ken needs friends for sure, but most importantly Ken needs people who are able to keep him alive and maybe teach him how to keep himself alive?? He wants to learn the ways of soup.
Unwanted CR: Romance is off the table, he only has heart eyes for one person, sorry everyone. Also nothing aggressively negative. Ken can be a Lot for a person so a gentle negative CR or annoyance is fine, but I'm not interested in threads where he'll just be antagonized constantly.

Event Ideas:

  • the aurora: Ken will be so excited about the return of LIGHTS. Then less excited about GHOSTS. I'm leaning towards having the house he moved into have a couple spectres glitching on repeat that may force him out of his "home" in confusion and also probably a sadness he can't quite comprehend. Would love for him to stumble/run into someone as he tries to hastily escape, maybe find another place to spend the night with another person or persons, maybe talk about what the hell is going on with people who can put the clues together more than he can. Someone explain!

  • the hour of the wolf: Real talk I'm the least interested in this prompt but this seems moderately unavoidable, so! Someone will 100% have to rescue Ken if he has a wolf run-in because he is not at all equipped to do it himself. He has never wielded a weapon in his life and you can't beach off a pack of wolves probably. If someone is interested in playing hero, let me know, otherwise I'll be ~gently handwaving~ some very close calls.

  • it speaks: Given that Ken doesn't really know who he is beyond "I am Ken, I am a doll, I am Barbie's boyfriend", along with the way he was already feeling some deep set insecurities and mild existential feelings, this one will hit him good. He will genuinely believe that, yes, it is better if he wasn't here, because no one's ever really cared about him being there in the first place. He knows (to a degree) that he's largely superfluous and uncared about. May as well just wander out of the town and towards the woods ... The fact alone that someone might even care to stop him would honestly go a long way to him feeling wanted or validated.

Conversely, once he's over his own shit, he is an excellent hype man. If you need someone to talk some positive vibes into your character, Ken is your guy. He doesn't even need to know them to find some good and heartwarming stuff to say about them to chase away the voice.

Pacing: I tend to vary pacing-wise! most of the time I settle on a medium pace, though on occasion I may slow down.
OOC Limits: no eye trauma pls!

    Character Name: Edward Kenway
    Canon: Assassin's Creed

Wanted CR: while I'm satisfied with pretty much anyone, I'm also deeply keen on having Edward maybe teach people how to do stealth and parkour, and for Edward to learn new things in return, like how to use a semi-automatic handgun that he looted off a corpse. pls, he's used to flintlock pistols. I also want him to hang out with fellow old-timey people so they can boggle at electronics when the Aurora turns them all on somehow like what the FUCK.
Unwanted CR: no negative CR just yet! unless we can talk something out about that? I'm easy to persuade.

    Event Ideas:
THE AURORA: after he gets over the shock of seeing a computer turn on in the room he's taken in some random abandoned house, he'll be quick to start investigating what's going on there for hints as to What The Fuck Happened Here. and then he'll come out and see the ghosts running around. mostly he's just going to watch the ghosts once it's clear they can't be interacted with, trying to figure out the mystery of what drove these people to such chaos and confusion.
THE HOUR OF THE WOLF: Edward's a skilled hunter who's fought off and killed crocodiles and jaguars in the past, if not exactly experienced in fighting wolves. once the wolves start coming he'll go around trying to pull people out of trouble with them, and I do want him to kill a wolf one time so he can skin that and just wear the pelt around as an extra coat. and, yanno, grab a couple of bones from the wolf body on the off-chance he can find ropes to craft rope darts with. that being said these are much hardier wolves than he's used to and he's only got one flintlock pistol and a semi-automatic handgun he's still new to, as well as his hidden blade, so he is also available for needing rescues!
IT SPEAKS: Edward will be hearing the voice...a lot. it won't be great. it'll bring up his years of being a pirate who thought of nothing but himself and how well that worked out for him (not well at all), and how he died and left his children behind, possibly even in the care of a man who he shouldn't have trusted at all. Edward's a stubborn guy, though, so he'll push back against the voice as hard as he can—probably loudly, whoops. he's available for talking people down!

Pacing: I try to hit tags daily but there might be the occasional lag, and I'm down to boomerang if schedules align
OOC Limits: No character death, no major injury for the doggo

    Character Name: Max (and Maurice)
    Canon: Original

Wanted CR: People for her to get protective over, people who'll see through her bullshit, friends in general
Unwanted CR: Neg CR is fine but nothing too crazy off the bat, it's still early days

    Event Ideas:
↼ pre-event: if anyone wants to handwave some interactions from the first few days in town let me know! max would've been in the community hall fairly often and would have been doing a lot of patrolling and searching for supplies. maurice makes her fairly easy to pick out of a crowd, since he would've been with her most of the time

↼ aurora: despite the risk max will be out trying to catalogue all the ghosts, so if anyone else is investigating that's an easy way to meet! she's going to be compartmentalizing like a pro so she'll likely come across as somewhat callous despite the horrific scenes

↼ wolves: who wants to be rescued by the goodest boy? as soon as the wolves start attacking, max will be out with maurice (reluctantly but she found him a wolf collar so at least there's that!) to help get people to safety. i'm down for team ups or rescues, she'll be running herself to the point of exhaustion to make sure everyone is safe

↼ it speaks: hoo boy this one's gonna be rough. max is kinda passively suicidal on a good day so having whispering little voices reinforcing all her shitty beliefs is going to be A Bad Time. the fact maurice is here will help, but she'll still probably need some help, which she's going to absolutely hate. people she's met before would probably the better option (even if that's handwave) but it could also be a very uncomfortable first meeting

maurice is also available for hugs if anyone needs them. he's good at picking up on humans being sad, so if you want an easy cr starting point, he's your boy!

Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] horreur / hagfishs @ discord / pm
Pacing: I run a little more slowly through the week, but have more availability on weekends.
    OOC Limits: N/A

    Character Name: Edward Little
    Canon: The Terror

Wanted CR: I'm wide open to anything, whether it's exploring cr and seeing what grows organically, or trying to find An Angle to play around with! Some specific beats that I'd enjoy: others from around his time (1840's) he can vibe with, those from modern times to teach him new things (he'll be very anxious and no fun at all), perhaps those with modern medical experience to take a look at him... others with military training, people he can nanny in his nervous but resilient way...

    Unwanted CR: N/A

    Event Ideas:
general — Lieutenant Little has been spending his days keeping busy and trying to be useful (inbetween bouts of debilitating dissociation and horror that he has to just kind of Take Time to get Through). He'll have been doing patrols, checking corpses to see if any are his men (and subsequently helping with corpse disposal), checking in on people he's met here so far, and trying to locate a man named Cornelius Hickey, have you see him As the days go on, he's going to be defaulting to trying to keep some kind of order, which may or may not fail miserably! I'm down to thread out some first meetings or cr-building things, whether inbetween event shenanigans or as a part of.

the aurora: aftershocks — I would deeply enjoy (potentially lighter-hearted) opportunities for the sensible Victorian naval officer to be exposed to electricity and other such modern inventions.... please help him learn what an email is. I'm also very much here for doing things with the "ghosts" — Edward is carrying heaps and heaps of guilt with him, and already halfway thinks this may be some Hell he deserves to be in. Witnessing people's final moments playing on loop will be Impacting to him for sure; it could be an interesting point of conversation / potential for some heavier or thoughtful talks with other characters.

the hour of the wolf — While Edward is hardly A Fighter, he'll be doing whatever he can to help keep people safe against the wolves. He does have his shotgun with him here, but it's very low on ammo. I think it'd be very fun to play out some holing up against wolves, finding ways to scare them off, etc.

it speaks — Ned will be extremely susceptible to this, due to that aforementioned "heaps and heaps of guilt" he is carrying around with him, as well as plenty of self-loathing and shame! I can very much see him reaching a point where he's at his limit, and probably will intend to use his shotgun to do the job with. If anyone is interested in stopping him, that could be a meaningful thread. Alternatively, I'd also love for him to help others down from their own ledges (whether literal in this case or metaphorical) — probably after he's experienced and survived his own.

Pacing: Usually most active during the week, pokey on weekends.
    OOC Limits: None really.

    Character Name: Harry Goodsir
    Canon: The Terror

Wanted CR: Literally anything. Someone to teach this boy about germ theory, vitamins, and about almost any modern medicine and technology. Friends who can help him with his guilt feelings and general misery.
Unwanted CR: No preferences or dislikes.

    Event Ideas:

    • Aurora: Harry is a science guy, but at the same time he's seen some wild shit, and ghosts may actually not be the worst thing he's experienced. He will be studying what he sees, however, and trying to make sense of it all, and to deduce what he can of what happened here before.
    • Wolves: He can patch up anyone who gets hurt but he probably won't be good in a fight. May also experience flashbacks to monster bears.
    • Voices: hahaha oh this one will be the worst. Because wow, does he ever have a lot of guilt and misery to poke. He may need some help.

Pacing: I'm a pretty consistent back-tagger, so even though I've got a work conference smack dab in the middle of the month (yay.......), I don't see it affecting my speed.
    OOC Limits: none really!

    Character Name: Cornelius Hickey
    Canon: The Terror

Wanted CR: friends, people he can get into fights with, people who he can impress with his Arctic survival knowledge (it is mid at best), anyone remotely from his time period (1840s), anyone not from his time period who would be willing to deal with so many invasive questions about what the fuck an airplane is.
Unwanted CR: unless your name is Edward Little or Harry Goodsir (or you've spent a lot of time having a heart to heart with Edward Little or Harry Goodsir), I don't want anybody calling Hickey out on the full extent of his shit. like yeah, he's a sketchy little creep, but at the moment, in-game, he hasn't really progressed beyond 'sketchy little creep.'

    Event Ideas:
The Aurora: guys what the hell's a computer.

The Hour of the Wolf: Let's! Kill! Dogs! Hickey will definitely try to fight back against the wolves and also definitely eat some of that wolf meat. If anybody wants to find him vomiting or shitting his brains out behind one of the houses, I'm up for the world's worst thread.

It Speaks: Hickey has a good long history of horribly misinterpreting "get the fuck away from here" as "whatever this is, it thinks you're special." That is only going to get worse with 'It Speaks.' Of course the voice wants him to disappear. It recognizes him! It sees just how powerful he is! It thinks that he's a threat. He's going to block out the voice by the power of sheer delusional ego so.....a win, I guess? If you need any of your characters talked down, he can happily do that because gosh, isn't he just a nice guy, helping people out, being a good dude, you should trust that Mr. Hickey fellow.

Pacing: Uncertain! Some stuff's come up, but I do think I'll be around regularly.
OOC Limits: No character death right now, but anything else, including damage, goes.

    Character Name: Alyson Ronan
    Canon: Tell Me Why

Wanted CR: I am wide open at the moment. Friends are great; she's not great at the hunting or fighting, but she'd be happy to learn if someone wanted to teach her, and she can offer help with some more practical stuff (sewing, cooking, making a fire, fixing small things). She's going to try not to make enemies, so negative CR would probably be limited to quietly avoiding somebody, but I'm still open to it if you have ideas.
Unwanted CR: She's not a good option if you want an enemy who will physically fight back, but anything else goes.

    Event Ideas:

general/pre-event -- Alyson's staying in the hall for now, so anyone else who is or who's there regularly might have seen her around or said hello. One of the things she has from home is a sewing kit, so she's been scavenging for clothes that can get fixed up, and will have left some of them out in the hall with a note that they're free to take. If anyone's been looking for some patching up, they might have noticed her sitting around doing that.

the aurora: aftershocks -- She's gonna be freaked out by the ghosts and curious about them in equal measure, so you can find her standing around just watching some loops if you want someone to discuss them with or freak out more viscerally at. Aly's also gonna go exploring when the tech comes to life, and she's from 2014, so if any characters from another time want someone modern-day to go poking around with, that could be some fun.

the hour of the wolf -- She's not a fighter, so she's much more likely to end up cornered by wolves, or huddling indoors hoping they don't get in. I'm very down to have her saved by someone, or otherwise huddle and freak out with somebody else -- she could also maybe patch someone up a little? Saving others isn't likely.

it speaks -- Speaking of needing rescue. Alyson has a whole bunch of guilt; it's not going to be hard for the voice to get under her skin. A lot of that's going to have to do with her brother and her mother, so she might open up about some of that after being talked down, though she probably won't tell anyone everything. Cliffs or walking out to freeze are the most likely way for this to go. After she comes down, she'll also be available to help other people! She's a good listener and generally pretty accepting, so I'd love to have this one go both ways.
Something to note is that Aly canonically has panic attacks related to the issues that are likely to be involved here. There will be a few early on, and even after she's talked out of it there might be some residual episodes while trying to help others, so if that's a problem for you, please either skip this one or let me know so I can tone down any descriptors.

    Pacing: Should be relatively steady!
    OOC Limits: N/A

    Character Name: Eddie Munson
    Canon: Stranger Things

Wanted CR: Pretty much whatever, but especially friends! The only guy here who should know him doesn’t really remember him and it is very upsetting. It would absolutely help him to learn a bit more survivalism too.
    Unwanted CR: Shrugs

    Event Ideas:
The Aurora oh thank god the electricity is back, excuse him while he either tracks down an amp to play his guitar (however briefly) or rigs something up. So get ready for the concert of your lives, Terror crew. He’s also a master at hot-wiring vehicles so if you have any desire to drive but can’t find keys, he’s your guy. THE GHOSTS? Less exciting, those will definitely freak him out.

Wolves he’s definitely having a wolf run in, and he is not particularly brave when it comes to that kind of shit so someone saaaave him. He can swing a stick around, but he’s also already injured so he would like to avoid being more injured for the time being.

Voices THIS ONE is really going to get him, because as loudly as Eddie is willing to admit any of his own weaknesses and flaws, it’s a little different when you’re outright berated for them. The voice will definitely bring up the fact that he’s a failure, and he couldn’t even succeed at dying, the fact that he’s still always running and always scared, and it will definitely dredge up some still-lingering guilt. The fact that Eddie knows who he is and ready accepts his faults will help him not need talked off of any cliffs, but he’ll definitely be pulling a lot of “LALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU”

Pacing: My main tag days are Tues-Thurs, my schedule is overnights from 8pm-6:30am Fri-Mon. I'm a little random & sporadic, but if you'd like to set up boomerang time with me, just lmk and I'll try my best to be available!
OOC Limits: Warnings for eye trauma, kid/animal harm/death, no killing Five at this point in time thx~ otherwise, open for p. much anything!

    Character Name: Number Five
    Canon: The Umbrella Academy

Wanted CR: Exploration buddies. A cartographer he can pester. People to network w/ about what you've found in whatever places you've searched/investigated/etc. Fellow paranoid assholes & conspiracy theorists. In general, I'm down to clown for any/all kind of CR across every positive/negative spectrum you might want and I anticipate some folks to not get along with him. I welcome it! Hit me with whatever.
Unwanted CR: No shipping for the 58yr old in the 13yr old body, thx. Otherwise, pretty open to anything at this point.

    Event Ideas:

  • pre-event: Five has set up something of a lil message board in the community hall with the idea that if you're running off to explore something somewhere, you give ppl a heads-up & sign the note you leave. People know the general direction you've gone and to go searching for you if you don't come back by (arbitrarily chosen time, or whatever here). Maybe your dude saw him setting it up, or has taken note of all the notes he's left on it since he started his own personal exploration lmfao

Also: if anything over here strikes your fancy, hmu. Or if you want to use "child stands on chair & makes demands" bit from the "organizing" prompt from his TDM post as a jumping-off point, feel free!

  • aurora: Definitely gonna play with the weird ghost-loops, here. He'll wanna compare notes on this with what other people see played out in other loops and try to pull some clues together somehow!

  • wolves: If someone wants him in on their wolf times, hmu? I'm not gonna write a prompt for it, myself!

  • voices: OH BOY! This is right up my alley and Five will Not Be Okay, while also insisting Everything Is Fine, Why Do You Ask so... have fun with that. I'll have to decide what things the voice digs at... the "you do not belong" is actually a good button-press for him anyway b/c hoo boy he is out of place in so many ways and not just here in Milton. Other possibilities are not being Enough to save his family/the world from ruin. Def gonna find himself in some dangerous situation or other, if someone wants to do the savior thing with him, use spite, it's fueled him for decades tbh

IDK if-when-how we might be able to get them CR to that point.... but Five would be a...very good bet to go with on a lil murder pact, in the event Kieren at some point went full feral zombie. He's an assassin by trade, he wouldn't hesitate to make the tough call, if it needed to be made. JUST....sprinkling that idea out there, just in case opportunity arises in someway or other.

OOC Limits: Death, maiming, mind control

    Character Name: Tim Gutterson
    Canon: Justified

Wanted CR: Friends, hunting buddies, people who need protection, other military types.
Unwanted CR: No romance at this time

Event Ideas: I kinda wait to see the event log and let TLs hit me as they come.

But off the top of my head I know Tim will want to be involved in either encouraging people to set up fires to keep the wolves at bay, or he is happy to follow the directions of anyone who is working towards that goal. Town and group security will be his main focus.

To that end I offer him up to help stop any characters who might find themselves in the thrall of the "It Speaks". So if anyone needs talked away from a cliff or any other self-destructive path, Tim is here to help save you from yourself.

Not a question directly about the event, but I've referenced in a couple of threads that Five has set up a sort of vaguely defined message board system in the community hall. Just so if someone's going out into the wilds, they can say where they're going/when to expect them back, in the event someone seems to turn up missing people know to go search for them, etc. I even have a TL with a spot for message board notes in my catch-all post!

I was thinking if it might be a cool idea to have a mod-page specifically for this sort of thing, so other people can leave notes for folks to use for CR purposes/etc? No pressure of course, just a thought I had <3
