Well, sometimes it helps, right? For someone to believe something that isn't true. Like for example if you were working with both your boyfriend and your ex that you never really broke up with, and your ex was helping you undermine the whole operation because your boss was a psycho, maybe you would want your boyfriend to think you and your ex had never met before.
