Tales From The Northern Territories #8
TALES FROM THE NORTHERN TERRITORIES #8

Greetings, Interlopers! Welcome to another of your bi-monthly updates, known as Tales From The Northern Territories! The purpose of these little ‘newsletters’, is to touch base with players on how things are going within the game and the fallout of the event of the previous month. In addition, these updates will also provide some extra information on NPCs, along with any additional happenings that might be going on within the game — which may be hints towards the upcoming Test Drive Meme!
Before we jump into things, here are some dates for your diary for this month:
A Not-So Secret Thing — 1st
CR Meme — 15th
CONTENT: For December, there will be no TDM this month. In addition, with there being no TDM, that means there will be no application round this month. Players may still play out from the November event, or create their own open post for more general posts. There will also be no mini-event for December.
There will, however, be a special festive arrival — which will be a familiar sight for some.
We hope you enjoyed your Superlatives Meme last month! This month, players will have their bi-monthly CR Meme.
HOUSEKEEPING: A reminder for players that we have both a Character Location Tracker for players to use to show where their characters are each month. I will link it here, but it can be found on the Areas Page. In addition, we have a Character Impressions Sheet for players to put down first impressions/basic general knowledge of characters that was created by one of our former players! While linked here, this can be otherwise found on the Navigation pages.
NOVEMBER’S EVENT
STRANGERS: Into December, the Darkwalker’s attempts to erase the identities and memories of Interlopers will begin to wane. Some Interlopers may remain to struggle with putting themselves back together again but with
NO EXIT: After November, Interlopers will no longer be finding themselves waking up in some inescapable cave. Should anyone try to retrace their steps to return to the cave they’d been in, they will simply find a small, shallow cave.
LAST SUNSET OF THE YEAR: The celebrations have gone well, and
AND NOW... THE WEATHER
DAYLIGHT: Winter is here, and with it, the long night. There is no daylight in the Northern Territories for the entire month of December. The only light Interlopers will have is a few scant hours of ‘civil twilight’. The sun will not rise until January 15th, from which there will be a single hour of daylight in the world — which grows to a whopping five hours of daylight by the time January ends. Keep those fires burning and those lanterns lit, Interlopers.
WEATHER: It’s incredibly bitter in the months of December and January. Blizzards and periods of heavy snowfall are far more frequent, and the temperature can be noted as dropping into double digits in the negative — particularly at night. There are even nights where even if the sky is clear and the world is still, it will feel bitingly cold and it will be hard to feel warmth. Time outside grows increasingly dangerous. Those with Cold Fusion will be just fine, but it might be a good idea relying on your Lightbringer and Moon Touched friends to get you through the long night.
AURORAS: There is a low frequency of Auroras during December and January. It seems not even the lights in the sky can offer the Interlopers a break from the long night.
NEW HAPPENINGS IN DECEMBER
BOAR TRACKS: Some familiar-looking tracks can be found in both Milton and Lakeside from mid to late December. These boar tracks, for those who were here last December, can be recognised as belonging to one Very Particular Being.
BEAR(?) TRACKS: In late December and into early January, additional tracks can be found within Lakeside. They appear to be bear tracks, but the paw-prints seem… too large. Impossibly so. These tracks will often disappear into nothing, making them near-impossible the track.
STRANGE LIGHTS: In late-December and into January, Interlopers may find themselves noting… strange tricks of the light. Faint, thin blips of colour that catch in the corner of one’s eye. They seem to disappear as quickly as they appear.
NPCs
METHUSELAH: Methuselah will return to Milton close to the middle of the month, but once more he express that there are no Interlopers to come. He does not know why, and will wonder if perhaps there are simply no more left to come. That whatever strange forces at play have stopped. He does not come empty-handed, and his sled will be loaded with fresh deer, rabbits and fish he has hunted, along with winter foragables he has collected — to be donated to the Community Hall for Interlopers to make use of.
He will stay in town for a short while, and like last year, on the morning of the Winter Solstice, Methuselah will be holding a small ceremony of sorts to welcome in mid-winter and the turning point towards summer. A huge bonfire will be built in the center of town, and set aflame to keep Interlopers warm. He will give a similar speech to last year, and all will be welcome to bring food, drink, exchange gifts and enjoy some company.
YOUNG BILL: It’s business as usual for Young Bill in Lakeside. He can be found hunting in the wilds with Scout and Nova and will accept company for those out hunting. He’s taken an interest in the unusually large bear prints. He has never seen prints this large before, and appears troubled by them. He end up focusing on these tracks intensely as time goes on.
ENOLA: On Aurora nights, Enola can be heard. She sounds... exhausted. Her breathing laboured, a little pain. She can be heard talking, strained words through her teeth: don't you touch them. They scare you, don't they? That's why you have to break them down. Sometimes, she's heard resting and her sleep is troubled and fitful.
She is particularly loud to Interlopers who have the Aurora Call feat, and for a short while she may even speak with them. She is proud, encouraging: look at you, look at how far you've come. The light will come again.
