Thinking about it, it could be interesting if when they're travelling together, she notices that he's ill and asks him about it. She might be worried if they're literally days from anything in the middle of nowhere and she thinks he's sick. That could either lead to him telling her about it, or if he wouldn't just then, an excuse for her to really want to get a radio when they reach Silverpoint, for future actual emergencies!

I'd love for him to teach her Morse Code! There is a certain handwaviness in that Ari doesn't actually speak English. She knows four languages (one of which is vaguely reminiscent of Russian) but they're all from her galaxy and don't even use an Earth alphabet. But I figure whatever translation magic lets her understand people and read things will work for Morse Code too, whichever type he teaches her! She is very used to 'signal lights' to send messages in space if comms go down, so she'll pick it up quickly.

Ohhh I love that idea, I'm so here for it and I can see him telling her about it then! He'd want to prepare her for the worst-case scenario, aka if he happens to pass out and throw up an entire creature out here... Kostya's dumb stubborn self heading off on expeditions in his condition...

And that would be perfect, I've been gently handwaving about Translation Things too / rolling with the Game Magic At Work so I'm happy to extend that to Morse code! I think he'd be really excited to get to teach someone something again LOL, it's been a while, especially for anyone so enthused & quick to learn! And likewise, he'd be so interested to learn all the things about communications in her world. All this exchange of information is such good enrichment 😌
