The pirate thing is a little concerning at times, but I'm glad you don't do that anymore. And besides, I think you're really nice.

It took me too long to get out of the life, but I'm glad I did. Too many of my friends back then lie dead now, either in the ground or on the ocean floor, somewhere. It's not a way of life that tends to last long.

Have you ever fallen off a roof accidentally?

I've fallen from roofs, from trees, from yardarms, from railings, and one time when I was very drunk I fell off a pier and had to be rescued by the Jackdaw's cook before I drowned. Aye, it's happened a few times. How do you think I'm so good at not falling now?

Nah, but then again I've been here since the first day or so. I suppose they've all just gotten used to me.

I respect you a lot, regardless of whether or not you're a pirate. You're a good man, and you're willing to put in the work to keep our community from collapsing.

I was a pirate. Now I’m not. [A small, tired smile.] Tell you the truth, this place sort of reminds me of Nassau. It was just as much a collection of misfits as Milton is.

I suppose that’s why I’m putting in the work now.
