Town Meeting

Town Meeting

Town Meeting

With the recent events that have transpired in regards to Young Bill's plan to starve out the Forest Talkers — the eco-terrorist group that has been hounding him and leaving macabre scenes all over the Lakeside area, Interlopers have called a town meeting to discuss what to do on this.

Rather than playing out the Town Meeting, like with the Darkwalker's second attack, consider this post an OOC post of that meeting, for players to share their character's thoughts and feelings on the situation — along with the best approach in regards to Young Bill's proposal.

Players are free to thread out scenes from the Town Meeting in their own event toplevels/open posts if they wish to do so — but this is more of a quick catchall on character's thoughts that's more accessible to everyone — and players can have their characters +1 ideas they agree with!

Please fill out the following form.

EDIT: THERE IS A POLL FOR INTERLOPERS TO VOTE ON

Character Thoughts/Ideas:

• Jim would be against starving out the Forest Talkers. Not to mention it being unnecessarily cruel and unethical (for him, anyway), he believes it would be seen as an act of hostility that would have serious consequences that the Interlopers are absolutely not ready to deal with. He will suggest that Young Bill is eager to have the Talkers leave him alone, and they have to consider the possibility that he's willing to use them to achieve that goal, without caring and/or thinking about the consequences that might have for their group.

• That said, he does believe that some action needs to be taken regarding the group. So, he will suggest that instead of taking their supplies, they should find those caches and leave letters or notes, trying to reach out to them in hopes of initiating some form of communication, and hopefully work towards some form of truce. They do all need to coexist in this place, at least for the time being, and doing anything on either end that could potentially push them into a situation of conflict would only end in running through their supplies all the quicker, and the end result would probably be one side being killed off while the other would be severely affected in terms of supplies and infrastructure.

Which isn't to say that conflict may not arise or even lead to violence later, but he believes that they should at least attempt at a peaceful/diplomatic resolution, rather than being the ones leaping to what could essentially be seen as acts of aggression or hostility.

Ruby definitely agrees that coexisting with them is probably they're best bet. Even if the Forest Talkers don't want to directly work with them, it's better to have at least an agreement not to go after one another than walk on eggshells on waiting for a conflict to start.

He's not fond of living near a potentially violent group but he's certainly not okay with murdering them all, and chances are the Talkers are as stuck here as they are. Finding some kind of truce seems like the first reasonable step in that direction, even if it doesn't work at least they'll gave given it a try.

That's fair! Jim accepts that it might not work, he's also skeptical about it. He just thinks they should at least try.

Louis is fairly sure the automatic translation will work anyway, but just in case, he can provide French translations. He thinks any francophones among them would appreciate it.

It wouldn't hurt! Just in case their translator doesn't work for the Talkers.

Diplomacy has it's place but Ashiya is skeptical about their willingness to be diplomatic with the mutilated bodies that have been found in the woods. Such behavior usually suggests something else going on psychologically, and people willing to go to that place are usually not worth the effort of trying.

That may very well be true, but if they leap straight to hostile action then it's on them that they're not even giving anything else a try, and they will be giving the Talkers every reason to turn their aggression straight towards the Interlopers and their settlement. Jim is concerned this will turn into a violent conflict regardless of what they do, but there's a difference between initiating that themselves and at least attempting at a peaceful resolution.

Not if we can figure out what they want and hold it for ransom over their heads for cooperation or information.

Taking one of the caches as a negotiation point is a good idea, but figuring out more of the bigger picture may be necessary to do more.

McCoy's with Jim on all counts, and at least attempting a diplomatic solution versus throwing fuel on the fire.

Zoey agrees completely. Better to figure out a way to exist around each other if it's possible.

Oh! Hey, idea! Since Jim was on board with Lalo's "fortify Milton" plan, any places he's been looking at as particular good/safe areas for people to hide in? Places that could be easily fortified maybe?

HMM I haven't given that much thought, but I think that the Town Hall would be the first to come to mind. It's big, there are places to sleep, prepare food, etc., and some supplies are kept there. It's already the standard meeting point for the community, plus it has a basement they could work on to make more secure and safe against the Talkers. On the other hand, it could also make them easier to locate (sitting ducks basically), so they could always try to find or build a more concealed hideout that the Talkers wouldn't know about, so it'd be harder to find if they came for them? Something like a bunker.
