Town Meeting

Town Meeting

Town Meeting

With the recent events that have transpired in regards to Young Bill's plan to starve out the Forest Talkers — the eco-terrorist group that has been hounding him and leaving macabre scenes all over the Lakeside area, Interlopers have called a town meeting to discuss what to do on this.

Rather than playing out the Town Meeting, like with the Darkwalker's second attack, consider this post an OOC post of that meeting, for players to share their character's thoughts and feelings on the situation — along with the best approach in regards to Young Bill's proposal.

Players are free to thread out scenes from the Town Meeting in their own event toplevels/open posts if they wish to do so — but this is more of a quick catchall on character's thoughts that's more accessible to everyone — and players can have their characters +1 ideas they agree with!

Please fill out the following form.

EDIT: THERE IS A POLL FOR INTERLOPERS TO VOTE ON

Player Name / Contact: Dem [plurk.com profile] jigglyballs
Character Name: Levi
Character Journal: [personal profile] wingbound

Extra information:

Levi has been spying on the Forest Talkers, and he would share what he learned in the meeting (so if your character would attend it feel free to assume they're aware of his findings):

- there are 40-50 Forest Talkers in the Old Hunting Lodge, which likely means their base;
- they are well armed -- so definitely no storming the lodge directly;
- there are definitely teens among them - presence of young children or sick people unknown;
- there is some sort of a cult leader present (he wears a stag skull and white tactical gear);
- Forest Talker groups sometimes leave the compound, usually at dusk or dawn;
- the leader sometimes goes with them.

Character Thoughts/Ideas:

➜ He doesn't like the idea of starving these people, especially since they have kids among them, and will actively protest theft or destruction of food. However he'll support taking ammo from the caches.

➜ He's willing to try alternative options that other Interlopers are suggesting, such as trying to leave notes OR kidnapping some Forest Talkers to make them, well, talk. (He's made people talk before, though he'd prefer not to.)

➜ As far as the kidnapping idea goes, he will express doubt that FTs will care enough to negotiate about the life of their friend, considering they've been sacrificing some of them. He'll suggest going after their leader, but also acknowledge that such a mission may be too costly/not worth the hassle, depending how many people and/or firepower they could dedicate to it and all the unknowns (like what if that guy has magical powers or something).

➜ If all else fails, he's not above murder where necessary. It's clear enough that they can't just leave the FTs alone if they continue killing their way through the countryside. If it comes to that, however, they should look at taking out the leader(s) and not just blindly target everyone; whatever bullshit is going on should leave kids out of it.

➜ He'll likely just mention that he has experience with conflict and he wants to avoid anyone pointlessly dying, so people shouldn't be wandering near FT territory alone. The OOC rundown of that is that he's fast, strong, decent at stealth/scouting as well as breaking and entering and plenty of other useful skills; if someone needs a bodyguard on their note leaving travels or more people for the ambush team, he's a good guy to have.

Ruby appreciates this knowledge. She is definitely not interested in hurting kids or teens especially if there's a chance that they're just brainwashed by culty behavior.

She's got a bit of experience dealing with someone who keeps a bit of a cult like following, and on the flipside having a little bit of a following herself starting to spring up.

Her suggestion from this would be more to find a way to discredit the leader and find a way to pull the people from his side to theirs. But that will be a fine line to walk as well, because they'll have to show those people that the people of Milton can be trusted and are the better alternative.

Someone good at espionage could try infiltrating the cult and sabotaging Stag Head Guy from within... alas Levi is not known for his subtlety so if anyone wants to try that it'll have to be someone else.

If she or anyone else has other discrediting ideas that would be possible to implement he's all ears, though he does think they need to actually know what the cult or group is first -- they could always try to get rid of the leader after talking with someone.

Yeah! Ruby is pretty sure for one that she stands out too much. Red hair streaks and silver eyes is probably a tip off. And she's got high persuasion but low deception. So it'd be a better job for someone else.

More information here is probably key. And probably a solid option to look into in the future.

Levi got charisma as a dump stat, he needs GM to let him use strength for persuasion-

YEAAAA they can of course float the idea to others, in case someone who may be better at it shows up!

Ruby is min maxed with high dex, and charisma. Low int, and wis. She is just doing her best here.

That's a good idea. They will probably have to be clever with it with how trigger happy the forest talkers are in the first place too.

Senku would suggest if the FTs turn out to be unwilling to negotiate for the life of their friend they could try using that to turn the captured FT to their side. Like, “they don’t care if you get out of this alive so why protect them, give us info on how to stop them from attacking and we’ll let you go”

Worth a try at any rate!

Taking the ammunition from the caches will make other actions less risky depending on how much they have stockpiled at their base.

Exactly! Considering how liberally they spray it at anyone who comes within respectable distance, they're ought to start running low sooner or later.

+1 to taking ammo, if they feel they ought to take anything. That said...

McCoy would discourage any assumption that dethroning their leader is a simple solution. Levi's already brought up the logistics in doing so, but McCoy's concern is that they don't know the full structure of the FTs or their ideology, goals, and psychological mindsets. They could just as well have someone waiting in the wings to take CL's place, choose to attack Milton, or simply annihilate themselves.

Okay, mass suicide out of loyalty is not something Levi has encountered, so he will be rather unsettled by that idea. It's still technically an unknown, but hm yeah, probably best to try to avoid that.

He also thinks that if it comes to an all-out confrontation between their camps however, the enemy taking themselves out is hardly an unfavorable outcome.

Of course, there's hoping it won't come to that.

Oh, Zoey will be glad to learn those tidbits about the Forest Talkers. It's going to make her even more cautious about starving them out; taking ammo she'd be a little more all right with, though. Disarmament so they can shoot less Interlopers is a good idea.

Maybe the two of them can be sneaking and stealthy for some reason together, since she's also pretty aces at stealth and breaking and entering.

Yeah, exactly... not to mention that if they have nowhere else to go it'd just be cruelty for the sake of it (he's lived through a lot of food scarcity)

And yeah I'm definitely up for that! I don't know how much need for sneakiness there is right now, but she could always join him in Talker Watch for a while (pretext could be letting him sleep lol), as someone suggested it may be a good idea to keep an eye on them more regularly. Just in case so that they get some prep time if the Talkers start setting up something big.

Or they could rob someone's house I guess D:

YEAH and desperate, starving people don't have anything to lose so that could escalate things in very bad ways.

I'm 100% there for her joining him for Talker Watch. Recon and information gathering is right up her alley.

That too though he's more familiar with the part where they die and/or turn to crime... which ig counts if they come trying to pilfer Milton,,

And that works for me! We could say they were both there or if you'd like to thread some of it i have a toplevel on the event too :>
