You still haven't answered my question, by the way. It's some sort of fish, but what else? They big, they small? Can you eat them in one bite or does it take a while longer?

I suppose you don't know that word either. [ He even sounds a little disappointed. He thought he might. No reason, other than everyone around Louis when he grew up knew it. His eyes go half-lidded as he reaches back into memory. ]

Think of a tiny mud-dwellin' lobster the size of a prawn, buglike and mean-lookin'. Great in boils. Get everyone together in the yard, cover the tables with newspaper, and spice the boil strong enough to look like blood.

You twist off the head and claws like you would a shrimp, pinch along the body to break it, peel the tail out. The tails are sweet and melt in your mouth. Suck the head, and that's it.

I hardly remember what food tastes like.

[ Hickey is British, urban, and not so well-traveled. The fish that he knew were whatever you could catch from the river—more cod than crawfish. And honestly, the food sounds good enough. Perfectly fine. But it's that last admission that interests Hickey most of all. ]

Then that means you're either ridiculously old or ridiculously young.

[ After all, there's no reason for hiding it if Louis is a normal vampire age, whatever the hell the normal age for a vampire is. And considering a younger age would be a hell of a lot funnier... ]

I'm guessing...what, fifty?

Hmm, old enough to be tired, young enough to remember what bein' human was like? That's a good guess. I'll leave you to wonder.
