Hello, everyone!! My name's Nico (she/they) and I'm new to the game! Bringing with me a pool noodle of a man, Robert Joseph Maccready from Fallout 4. For the uninitiated, Fallout is a Bethesda RPG, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Maccready here is a companion in FO4, but he previously appeared in FO3 as everyone's least favourite foul-mouthed child mayor of a settlement made up entirely of kids — they get kicked out at 16.

Survival is something he's used to. He's spent his whole life — twenty-two years of it! — in an irradiated and hostile wasteland, and he's picked up a few skills along the way to make himself useful. A sniper and mercenary by trade, he's no stranger to the harsh realities of the world, and the result is morals as flimsy as his spine... but at least he's cleaned up his language a lot in the ten years since we first saw him, even if he's gained some additional trauma. Unfortunately, he's not going to appreciate being so far from home; he's got a sick kid back in the wasteland, and was in the middle of seeking out a cure for the Mystery Illness™ when he woke up here.

Thank you to everyone who tagged me on the TDM, I honestly wasn't expecting such a response. I'm happy to consider those threads canon, and likewise to continue tagging them if there's still interest. Otherwise, I'm excited to see what else is in store! i had a fallout 4 playthrough i left part way through before...tears of hte kingdom, i think, came out. i should go back to it.

also id love to keep the tdm thread canon if thats cool

if it's the kind of game you were enjoying, i'd definitely recommend! it might not be as good as the others in the series, but i know i still got a lot of enjoyment out of the gameplay especially.

yeah! i'm totally down keeping our thread canon, maccready will likely squarely put levi in the box in his mind marked "kids, so be nice to them" even if levi isn't actually as young as he looks, lmao

oh i love the series. i put tons of time into it when it first came out even if i have issues with some changes but never really got near the plot so i was trying to do that...but so many other games ^^;;

awesome. levi's so annoyed when people think of him as a kid, but at least maccready's gotta know even kids are capable

gripping your hand in solidarity. i have a genuinely embarrassing amount of hours in fallout 4 compared to 3/nv; and while i love the series i have. many gripes (i think that's probably why i'm choosing to play a character from it, you know? why fallout specifically resurfaced now of all times, i couldn't say, though.)

for sure! mac isn't actually much older than levi i don't think, in spite of the fact he looks about thirty... but! i think he can relate a lot to the struggles of both having to grow up far too quickly and "being an 'adult', but not really."

nv, ironically, is the one i haven't finished. i know it's widely considered the better of the three put out by bethesda, but i think i tried playing it at a weird point and got distracted by other games... as always

i think that'd be a fun thing to thread out! the wildlife in the wasteland is so messed up, and seeing it as it used to be must be really jarring. nature... so beautiful and majestic [record scratch as a gun fires]

I'm also here with sad zombie boy Kieren here from BBC drama In The Flesh, along with Kate Marsh from Life is Strange. I'm totally canon blind to Fallout other than what I've learned from fandom (and how many people I knew queued up at midnight to get Fallout 4 when it came out), but oh boy. This place is gonna be a whole other kettle of fish for him huh. At least he's used to post-apocalypse vibes!

hi!! i'm excited to be here, i saw the premise and as an extremely casual long dark player it really spoke to me!

yeah, definitely... this kind of apocalypse is not what he's used to. objectively it might actually be better than what he's left back home, save for how cold it is. regardless, i'm sure, he's going to do his absolute best at getting back to the (worse) apocalypse. im (mostly) canon blind to both your canons, i've been meaning to watch in the flesh forever, but i have played a few episodes of lis. i'm especially looking forward to having maccready meet kieren especially, given fallout's not-quite-zombie characters!

HELL YEEEAH FELLOW LONG DARK PLAYER gosh you actually missed me doing a stream of the Darkwalker challenge for the first time on the game server back in... January? I beat the challenge, even if it took like over three hours but it was a fun time!! and horrible!!!

I highly recommend In The Flesh, the first series is only three episodes and holds a special place in my heart! But ohhh, hell yeah! Kieren is a sad boy but a very sad one!! He's just recently had to start eating brains again because of game-related shenanigans but he feels Very Conflicted about it.

i'll admit it has been a hot minute since i've played, i don't think i've touched any of the recent updates.. i always get the urge to play it in the winter but decide it's too cold and remember how horrible i am at playing, but i might have to poke at it again soon!!

EXACTLY the vibes. though it might also be a break from some of the folks back home. at least he won't be getting shot at on a daily basis, hopefully.

honestly, the beauty of so many british dramas is that we don't have 20-odd episode seasons (or maybe this is a downside, hard to tell sometimes) i didn't realise it was so short, though, might have to set aside some time to finally watch it now that i think my zombie burnout has run its course.

Hello Nico, I'm Jhey and welcome to the game! I have two horror guys here: Edward Little from The Terror, and Konstantin Veshnyakov from the movie Sputnik. I'd love to toss either of them at Maccready sometime, but in particular I think Konstantin could be potentially fun to explore. He's a space commander / cosmonaut from the 80's who picked up a gnarly alien parasite while on a mission, and it's here with him in game (fun times)! He's met Tobi and learned some things about his world, and is very interested to learn more about any post-apocalyptic wasteland horrors.... He also has A Kid he desperately wants to get back to, so there could be some interesting things there!

hello, thank you! i am totally unfamiliar with both of your characters and their canons, but i think maccready getting to meet a real life cosmonaut will be so exciting for him. he's not well-educated by any means, but he is a fan of the in-universe comics, one of which follows captain cosmos and his space adventures! (also... there are aliens, but i haven't decided if maccready knows that yet.)

he'll likely be very reluctant to talk about his son initially, but it's something i'd love to get into at some point, especially with how much the game falls short in that respect imo.

Captain Cosmos! That's really cute, and Konstantin is very ~Posterchild Hero for his time / culture, so he certainly knows how to enjoy the limelight l m a o. He would be thrilled to be met with any amount of excitement from someone, especially with freshly becoming host to the alien and subsequently being treated like a lab rat when he was previously revered by his country....! How easily even Heroes can be discarded....

And he comes with a lot of Guilts and Complications about his own son, so he's also pretty reluctant to bring him up (tl;dr version is that he didn't actually know about his kid until very recently, and made plans to go rescue him from an orphanage right before the whole alien situation happened...) So if an opportunity for Son Talks does come up somehow, there could be some interesting (and sad) potential. I definitely look forward to seeing how they go no matter what!

oh, no. i wish i could say maccready could relate to the experience of being revered and then suddenly reviled, but his role as kid mayor and then inevitably being kicked out of a weird child commune doesn't come close lmao. this all just makes me more interested in your guy though!!

ah, the Guilts and Complications... maccready knows them well. his situation is a different beast to konstantin's, and even if he's reluctant, getting home to his son is absolutely going to be his driving force. but i don't think it changes the core of it: son talks will definitely be sad (but sad dad is by far my favourite flavour of dad, so—) i need to keep an eye on posts, so these two get a chance to meet, though given current happenings it might be a tense one... oop

i'm right in the middle of a fallout 4 replay right now so seeing maccready is just AMAZING. love that guy and look forward to reading his stuff and tagging against him.

ahh! enjoy your playthrough— i'm currently crawling through fallout 3 to get a grasp on some of the stuff i've forgotten about, and i'm hoping i can get through some of 4 before anything significant starts coming up in threads LMAO.

i'll have to keep an eye out for mr. parker; i'm not au fait with marvel generally speaking, but the tobey spiderman movies were something i enjoyed with a friend so i have a sort of lingering bias for spidey. love that lil guy in spite of my horrible arachnophobia

fallout 3's not one i've played in awhile either so i need to rectify that. i remember really enjoying it but i also remember it took me awhile to get through because i wanted to do EVERYTHING.

but that's with all fallout games, i just wanna run around and see the whole world. and usually get killed by deathclaws when i do that lol.

yeah, it's been a while since i last played fo3 as well, probably just before fo4 came out, which was eight years ago? how?? why time...

the rpg need to do absolutely everything is too real, im sure there's a ton of things in the games that i've missed even now, so it'll be nice revisiting the wastes and discovering new things as i refresh my memory. careful with the deathclaws! though, i really want to pat them, they're like dogs to me
