Town Meeting

Town Meeting

Town Meeting

With the recent events that have transpired in regards to Young Bill's plan to starve out the Forest Talkers — the eco-terrorist group that has been hounding him and leaving macabre scenes all over the Lakeside area, Interlopers have called a town meeting to discuss what to do on this.

Rather than playing out the Town Meeting, like with the Darkwalker's second attack, consider this post an OOC post of that meeting, for players to share their character's thoughts and feelings on the situation — along with the best approach in regards to Young Bill's proposal.

Players are free to thread out scenes from the Town Meeting in their own event toplevels/open posts if they wish to do so — but this is more of a quick catchall on character's thoughts that's more accessible to everyone — and players can have their characters +1 ideas they agree with!

Please fill out the following form.

EDIT: THERE IS A POLL FOR INTERLOPERS TO VOTE ON

Character Name: Sansa Stark
Character Journal: [personal profile] clothed

Character Thoughts/Ideas:

→ Sansa would be listening in for most of the discussion, and if asked will put in her two cents: that while she isn't familiar with the ongoing conflicts, they have to safeguard their own resources above anything else.

→ If pushed, Sansa's reasoning is this: Young Bill's intentions may seem cruel, but he's also a desperate man asking for help, and there are favours to be gained from that beyond just the found supplies. Keeping the Talkers' caches hostage could mean they will get attacked, but it could also mean they would be more willing to sit down and talk (or at least stop being so violent for a moment) in exchange for their supplies.

→ If asked in private, Sansa would put this forward: find a way to decimate the Talkers' numbers and force them to negotiate, then integrate their people into their community. They must want something more than just survival, and if they can figure that out, then they may not have to fight with anyone any further.

But she's just a girl, please don't take her seriously! 😌

poison the caches--

The cache hostage idea sounds similar to Ruby's and Levi would support this as well -- it's reasonably peaceful but it also does give them some leverage, something he believes is necessary for any sort of communication at this point.

(He'd rather not think about decimating them but... she's got some good points there too...)

WE ARE NOT POISONING THE CACHES that is dishonorable and also what if we end up using them!

but yes securing their resources should be paramount, in sansa'a mind they shouldn't even get involved at all, it seems messy

Senku's open to holding the caches themselves hostage if his own idea is outvoted, though his main concern with the idea is that if the Talkers don't agree to meet and negotiate, their opportunity to interrogate one is lost.

it's why sansa's keeping the decimation idea to herself, she understands people already have moral quandaries as is, a more extreme but pragmatic approach might just split the group politics further 😭

can't we all just talk 🥺

Holding the caches hostage is an excellent idea. People of this sort aren't likely to respond well to negotiations but they will most likely find a compromise if their own needs are on the line.

exactly! they have to have motivations or needs outside of survival, why try to survive this much if they have no plans for after? they just have to find out what it is 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 also starvation is a huge demotivator, as wars will teach even the most ambitious of warlords, sansa pays attention too 🥰

This is something Ashiya has observed as well. Besides, isn't depriving a population of something that they vitally need for survival a war crime?

what are... war crimes??? 🧐 someone introduce sansa to the geneva conventions quickly please

War crimes are when an enemy takes actions that deny a full population's right to survival or causes unnecessary brutalities for the sake of their goal.

Denying a group's right to something they need to survive, like food, should count.

(He doesn't know the Geneva Convention either. Welcome to War Crimes as defined by a Demon General House Husband in Modern Japan).

Right, if you're willing to starve people out, at least commit and do a real siege.

only young bill gets benefits! this is equal to raiding and that moves the target onto milton, not young bill (who already is a target anyway)! they need to safeguard their resources, not just the food stores, because the locals know the land better and they have to assume any outward offensive action they make will mean twice the impact of retaliation to milton's defences. fortify the castle town, then force a negotiation, because the middleman almost always dies 🔪

Being the person who knows the least but is in the greatest danger is not a good position to be in! Drawing them to Milton where the non-combatants are is asking for trouble unless they fortify some place for them to hide.

they also need to double their supplies, because if a siege does happen, they'll need to outlast their attackers. hunting will be 2x riskier, and any non-moving food sources could either be poisoned or destroyed. hunters and scavengers could be led further out and get attacked. much risk! where is the reward!

Chloe’s fear of Free Runners being cut off due to food shortage may be closer than she thinks!

Also this is exactly why if they really want to starve out the Talkers they should lay siege on their base instead of just stealing the caches.

exactly, there's no half-measures for something like starving people out, they have to commit or it's just going to waste everyone's time while worsening the situation for everyone 💀
