I do — I was the seventh of them. [ He gives a small smile. ] Right in the middle.

I get it. I don't really like the lying part.

[ Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Yeah. Lying's not really a thing she does. Even if it's just for a little game. ]

It's kind of wild to have that many siblings. People don't have so many kids like that any more. [ They do still happen, but it's not as usual. Still, she smiles. ] I bet your house was real loud growing up.

I understand your feelings, Miss Kate. What fun is there in deception...?

[ IT'S A WAY TO GET TO KNOW PEOPLE, EDWARD. ROLL WITH IT. ]

It was very busy, to be certain. [ He smiles, too. ] Although not all of us were in the household at once. I was in the rather unique position of being the youngest of one group of siblings, and then when they left, the eldest of another. So I suppose I could say, I learned how to manage with a variety of situations...

[ Nobody this weird about touching people has kids. ]

Really, some little Littles? What're their names?

Deception is clearly a big part of this game though, so... he will keep playing, although he hates it... ]

.....George. [ Beat. ] And Elizabeth. George is the eldest.

Cute names. How'd you pick them?

Ah — well, Elizabeth is named for my eldest sister. And George— [ .... ] —is a fine name, with a good meaning. Humble, and strong.

He plans to join the Navy soon, as a matter of fact.

Ah, it should be a comfort to you to know you're not the only besieged by family. I was one of the youngest, the eleventh. The rest of my brothers joined the church or became solicitors.

The eleventh...! You must have an abundance of stories to share about it all. [ He smiles. ] The seventh — right in the middle.

It is actually fact! I might say that having so many siblings helped me quickly establish a need for keeping order. [ He gives a quiet laugh. ]

I'm pretty content with my just my sister.

[The two of them grew up as feral children with very little supervision.]

You are correct, madam. In truth, I cannot imagine myself taking on the position of fatherhood.

I can barely imagine you taking on the position of husband! It is a heavy responsibility for the good ones.
