Town Meeting

Town Meeting

Town Meeting

With the recent events that have transpired in regards to Young Bill's plan to starve out the Forest Talkers — the eco-terrorist group that has been hounding him and leaving macabre scenes all over the Lakeside area, Interlopers have called a town meeting to discuss what to do on this.

Rather than playing out the Town Meeting, like with the Darkwalker's second attack, consider this post an OOC post of that meeting, for players to share their character's thoughts and feelings on the situation — along with the best approach in regards to Young Bill's proposal.

Players are free to thread out scenes from the Town Meeting in their own event toplevels/open posts if they wish to do so — but this is more of a quick catchall on character's thoughts that's more accessible to everyone — and players can have their characters +1 ideas they agree with!

Please fill out the following form.

EDIT: THERE IS A POLL FOR INTERLOPERS TO VOTE ON

Character Name: Zoey Westen
Character Journal: [personal profile] pythianwoman

Character Thoughts/Ideas: Zoey’s going to be against starving out the Forest Talkers. For one, she’s just straight up against doing that sort of shit to people, but she’s also going to be concerned that doing this is going to escalate things more than they already are. Desperate, starving people have nothing to lose. She’s ALSO also going to be wondering, if they haven’t ALWAYS been doing the arrangement of body parts and cutting people/animals up, when the change happened and WHY the change happened. Was it just an escalation to more and more Interlopers showing up, or was there something else behind it, another reason for it.

Taking ammo she would be more all right with. But only just.

Something does need to be done about them. She’s hoping something peaceful. She’ll agree that maybe leaving notes with the caches in an attempt to reach out is a good idea. Maybe a meeting can be arranged. Some way of coexisting without it coming to blows and gunshots. But there needs to be a plan, and a few more as backup just in case.

Violence might not be able to be avoided forever, but putting it off as long as possible is a good idea.

She’ll happily be a part of attempting to reach out, or doing some stealth recon shit.

Learning from Levi that there may be a cult involved is going to have her even more cautious. Because yeah, things could go pearshaped REALLY fucking quickly. Even more so than they already have. She wouldn’t mind keeping more of an eye on them, and the idea of trying to infiltrate the group wouldn’t necessarily be a bad one. It would just need to be done carefully.

Character Name: La'an Noonien-Singh
Character Journal: [personal profile] rescapee

Character Thoughts/Ideas:
— La'an will spend most of the meeting at the back of the room, trying not to cause any discomfort with her presence, but she'll speak up to chime in her agreement with certain ideas.

— She agrees that action needs to be taken in regard to the Forest Talkers, but is against the notion of starving them out. Stealing their caches of ammunition seems like a potentially effective strategy for getting their attention for negotiation, but she's not entirely certain of what approach to take for negotiation since she has no personal experience with the Forest Talkers.

— For those planning to go out and raid or leave notes at the caches, she will offer her services as security for their well-being. She has extensive firearms and hand-to-hand combat training, and it sounds like both would be valuable if there's an altercation with the Forest Talkers.

— She absolutely does not support kidnapping a Forest Talker at this stage. They don't need to start a war, especially one they're not guaranteed to win.

Character Thoughts/Ideas: Thomas isn't very vocal about most of this, mainly because he's more of a watcher than a doer. However, he doesn't oppose raiding the caches; he opposes cleaning them out completely. He's fine with sending a warning, but he's not fine with actively starving out these people and leaving them with nothing. He's lived that life, thanks. He doesn't want it for anyone else.

Character Thoughts/Ideas: Sveta hates this. A lot. A lot a lot a lot a lot. And will be very against harming or hurting the Forest Talkers. She does not want anything to do with this at all...except medical supplies. She is always worried about that (especially with the amount of people she's finding with lung issues).

Player Name / Contact: gels | [plurk.com profile] gelise Character Name: Francis Crozier Character Journal: [personal profile] goingtobeunwell

Character Thoughts/Ideas:

He's very vocally against kidnapping or starving the Forest Talkers, but he agrees with taking their ammo from the caches and attempting to communicate with them. Crozier's going to propose:

⚓ The creation of a sort of postal/messaging system between the two areas of Milton, utilizing all the super fast runners who'd like to volunteer to relay written or verbal messages. He won't ask the people who have telepathy to assist - that might be a bit too invasive at the moment.

⚓ Having a volunteer 'militia' that can be called on if the Forest Talkers move against them, utilizing that same messaging system. He's mainly just proposing a kind of minuteman situation of folks who don't mind moving out if there is a threat.

⚓ The communication to the Forest Talkers should be consistent between messages. There should be a kind of template or outline to follow that outlines the Interloper intentions (mainly peace or a peaceful retreat of the Forest Talkers, if what he's hearing from everyone is correct), and also set a consequence if any of them are attacked or have their property vandalized again.

Crozier will then suggest cutting off their supplies or driving them out through other means, with an open offer of protection to any defectors.

+ Ruby isn't at full speed thanks to her injury. But she is down to help out with communication where she can. She spoke with Jessica last month who was thinking of a starting a delivery service. She will suggest that Jessica take the lead on this if she wants!

+ Ruby likes this idea. And would volunteer for it if given the chance.

+ Also agrees with consistent messaging and everything else stated here.

Re: the postal system idea, Randvi has been using Jessica’s courier system a bit so she’d put her forward for that.

The militia would probably need some kind of organization or person authorized to scramble it because as we can see here a lot of interlopers have different ideas on what level of intervention is appropriate.

+1 also to consistent messaging: they need to decide as a group what the win condition of this whole situation looks like. Young Bill wants them to leave Lakeside but where would they go? Milton? Exile?

Randvi is the second person to bring up Jessica, so he’d try to connect with her after this. He wants an emergency messaging system, so if she could round up some of the runners to join her it could be a happy marriage.

lol Randvi, what could you possiblyyyyy mean re: people having different ideas about force. XD Crozier would agree, and put forth that there should be some level-headed folk among them voted to lead the groups.

[personal profile] goingtobeunwell 2024-05-13 11:01 am (UTC)(link)

Training crows is an excellent idea! Crozier would ask if she knew how.

And he’s firmly against anyone too young volunteering for the militia, but he also knows the population is like…half teenager and child soldier, and stopping them would be difficult. He’d definitely push for some of the older folks to offer their services if they decide to move forward on this.

Zoey thinks that trying to starve them out could backfire and escalate things badly. She definitely agrees that messaging should be consistent. And being prepared in case of peaceful coexistence not being possible, too. (She'd probably volunteer for recon/information gathering, too. To try and keep folks apprised of things.)

There needs to be plans, and backup plans, just in case.

Character Thoughts/Ideas:

He's quiet through most of it, but once objections to kidnapping one of the forest talkers start coming up he'd say that's more of a backup option for if communication attempts don't go well, and that the weird murder ritual stuff might be leading to anything, that they might need answers about what's going on with that somehow before it turns into something worse. (This place is so fucking weird! Please don't let it get even weirder!)

He'd support attempts to organize some kind of defensive force, particularly around the mine entrance. In aid of that he'd ask if anyone knows how to make a bow and arrows, to help compensate for their limited ammunition. (There were probably bows and arrows in the hunting supply store, but even then arrows would be limited. If anyone knows how to make those he'd help.) If that ends up taking off he'd also be willing to teach people to shoot that way.

Randvi knows how to make both bows and arrows, though she’d be using 9th-century Scandinavian methods so they wouldn't be as sturdy or powerful as modern versions. She’d be happy to teach him since most of the materials are pretty easy to source here.

Zoey is absolutely of the idea that they need to figure out what's going on with the murder ritual warning stuff, because if this is something NEW, what changed? And why?

She probably has some idea how to at least make arrows, given her depths of studies into history and love of learning new things. (And has probably had need to in her CRAU history.)

Damian will mention that he has been making his own bow and arrows out of animal gut and fishing wire, and he'd be happy to teach people how to do it themselves.

He'll also agree that kidnapping is a backup plan, but that he's also not holding his breath for negotiations to go well.

Character Thoughts/Ideas:
Hornet has been listening to the chatter, the ideas that span between kidnapping and stealing. She's glad to see that most people are against starving the Forest Talkers out, but with the information on how they are acting, she wonders if there is more to it.

  • Hornet is in agreement regarding starving out the Forest Talkers. Should she manage to get a word in, she'd say as much and reiterate that this could cause more harm than good. She'd point out that desperation would cause them to act against them, or even this Young Bill. It would be in their best interested to not do so.

  • Knowing this information, she'd be more interested in seeking answers as to why they have decided to sacrifice their own, especially if they have adolescent humans among them. What is causing their new-found hostility? Is this leader influencing them in some way? There's too many questions and not enough answers. She'd suggest continuing to monitor them, see if they reveal anything of their current operation.

  • She is in favor of leaving notes: but she wants to know if they know the common language. If they've communicated with Young Bill in the past and were not hostile, what is the chance they'd manage to communicate with them now that they are? Do they utilize language or signs? Is there anything to indicate they will understand us?

  • She'd suggest they analyze the bodies they've mutilated. She's not familiar with humans, so she has no ability to assist in this, but she's familiar with things that alter minds and cause creatures to become hostile. Is this an infection of some sort? Could it potentially affect the Interlopers? Is the leader able to influence the people some how? She is not familiar with cults so, please feel free to give her some information in that regard.

  • She will offer her skills in combat should the need arise.

In terms of the Forest Talkers’ language, it looks like one talked to the Doctor so they can at least speak a common tongue. Writing could go either way.

As far as she’s concerned, the responsibility for peace is on them as they were the ones that started shit, not us. While she doesn’t know what to do about them, she believes they are up to no good and it will be better off to get their caches if they are dumb enough to leave them. (Jessica will also freak out by the grizzly sites of dead people and animals.)
